A Heart Attack Strikes Near Home

Uncle Bill had a heart attack in 1947—late in the year. They took him from Commerce to Texarkana to the Cotton Belt Railroad Hospital. He was very unhappy there. Said no one ever lived to come home from there.

So James went in an ambulance to get Uncle Bill and bring him to Fort Worth where he could monitor his care, and Aunt Eva could stay with us. Aunt Eva was very pleasant always, and we enjoyed having her with us at night. She stayed with us the whole time Uncle Bill was hospitalized in Fort Worth.
James' good friend, a heart specialist, took care of Uncle Bill, but they knew little to do for heart problems then, and in the middle of January 1948, I think, Uncle Bill died.
I took Aunt Eva to Commerce to make the arrangements. Beth Ann never liked to have anything to do with death or funerals. Told me I'd have to help Aunt Eva. But she did come to the funeral.
I can’t remember whether Beth Ann was back in Dallas by then or still in Kansas City.
James and Carolyn and I loved Aunt Eva and Uncle Bill so much, that we were glad to help them.
After his funeral, Aunt Eva went back to Commerce and her job.
