In less than a year after Mother and Reuben married, on the 19th of July, 1919, their only baby was born, in Murchison, about seven miles from Athens, in Henderson County, Texas. They named me Eva Kathryn Lee.

I was not born in a hospital—nor was my mother, nor was John, nor any of my cousins.
