On the 18th of June 1882, six years after his father’s death, John Daniel Browning, the maternal grandfather I always knew as “Papa,” married Nancy Ann (Nannie) Reynolds, whom I called “Mama,” in Henderson County, Texas.
Mama, born on the 1st of December 1855, was twenty-seven years old at the time of her marriage to my grandfather, who was twenty-nine years old himself.
I know more about Mama’s family, the Reynolds, than I do about the Brownings.
