Civil War Period
Roll of persons subject to military duty in Precinct No. 6, Henderson County, Texas organized into a Reserve Company:
Wm. Reynolds Enrollment Beat No. 2 - Henderson Co., Texas.
There is also a note that says that William George was older than the draft age, but he went anyway.
He died on the 9th of May, 1865 near Yantis, Texas [63 miles from Athens] on his way home from the War.
His wife Mary Middleton Reynolds got word from someone near Yantis that her husband was very ill and had stopped there, too ill to continue his trek home. She went in some sort of horse drawn vehicle to bring him home. When they drove up into the yard, she saw his clothes and his blanket hanging on the clothes line to air. She knew that she was too late to see him alive.
I assume that he was buried before she got there. Don't know of any marked burial place. My records say that she died on the 10th of August, 1871. I don't know where she was buried either.
